Characters

✨🎻. 🦎🪘 .. Just a jolly band from Lindblum and their anomalous little friend. .. 🐀🎸.🌌🎹

Locale

As a whole, all four of these characters can be found almost anywhere on the Mist Continent. While all of these characters can be found as a group as early as a few years before the events of FFIX, only Lorien, Mina and Branson (the trio) can be found even earlier.
For anything beyond seven years before FFIX: Lorien may possibly be found in Alexandria, Branson may possibly be found in Burmecia, Mina can be found in Lindblum and Sal cannot be found.
The trio perform primarily in Lindblum, Alexandria and Treno. However, they may pay other areas a visit upon special request. Particularly if it is a well-paying one.Sal, while not always accompanying the group, may be found in the same city as the trio (and co.) in at any given time. Otherwise, she may very well be completely MIA, nowhere to be found on Gaia!
Post-"mirror malfunction," however, she is confined to Gaia and essentially becomes a fourth party member to the trio. Though, she falls under (and co.) This does not make them into a quartet!
Mid-FFIX, the group can be found in more obscure areas on the Mist Continent just as well.
They may even be found outside of the Mist Continent entirely! This is because they will likely be hunting for clues pertaining to their little treasure hunt fiasco.

Lore

Given that the universe these four reside in is technically a bit of a special blend of my own material with that of FFIX, there are some unique things that could be noted in how these universes interact with one another. While they are not necessary to know, they may be nice to keep in mind.
They are also subject to revision as needed, depending on the RP itself!

  • Any mirror has the potential to be a Carthinium mirror.
Often, there may be only one or two in any given world: a primary one and a backup one. Rarely are there more than a few present in any given world, but "rarely" does not mean "never!"

  • Ethereal abilities are not considered magic abilities.
They operate off of different sources, magic being that of MP/mana and Etherealism being that of HP/vitality.

  • Magic and Etherealism do have some unique interactions (which can be found here!)

  • Magic can be used by all, including non-FFIX-verse entities under the right conditions.
Some lifeforms may be dependent on the use of equipment to use it. Those not native to the FFIX-verse may struggle to use it without equipment as they may not have an inherent MP/mana system.

  • Etherealism can affect all forms of life, including FFIX-verse entities.
It can affect them both positively and negatively, just as it does natively. It is very common for prolonged exposure to Ethereal radiation to cause more trouble than good, able to give life to abnormalities and ailments (like actual radiation.) However, in much rarer cases, there are positive mutations; mutations that can give an entity some Ethereal qualities. In extremely rare cases, Ethereal radiation may even produce another Ethereal in whole.
(For further reference: much like with vampirism and lycanthropy, Etherealism replicates itself like a microbe that infects an entity. However, the success rate is very low and more likely to kill as a "microbe" rather than replicate itself! Ethereal replication is often a very involved and intentional process that requires more than just bouts of Ethereal radiation. Though, once again, "extremely rare" does not mean "impossible!")

Carthinium

As the lore currently stands...Carthinium is a material that, when activated, can teleport an entity from one point to another.
There are a number of these anomalous, yet unsuspecting mirror-like constructs scattered throughout the cosmos that have largely been interconnected to a hub known as "The Spiral" and can be used to traverse the cosmos with relative ease (much like portals or wormholes.) Provided one has a particular element to activate them.
These "mirrors" only work if they are connected and can only be connected to one other "mirror" at a time, making them solely two-way. When they come into direct contact with a particular element, they will activate and can teleport an entity's frame from point A to point B (and vice versa.)The connection can be broken if the "mirror" itself is broken. The connection can also be temporarily disabled through forms of cosmic interference and supernatural phenomena. The element required to activate the "mirror" can be acquired and possessed by any individual.Because it is a conductive process, entities that come into physical contact with an entity possessing this element while teleporting will also be teleported. This can include various forms of organics, water and conductive items (such as metals.)

Magic and Etherealism

When engaging in combat with an Ethereal, prepare for a heated battle (seriously!)
Innately armed to the teeth with lightning, fire and general solar mayhem, Ethereal entities are not to be trifled with without some proper preparation.
Because Ethereals are energy-based beings, most energy-based spells (such as fire, lightning and holy) can actually heal and charge up an Ethereal. In contrast, energy-negating spells (such as ice and shadow) can be used effectively against them.

Elemental Affinities

The heat and radiation an Ethereal can give off can be mitigated with the use of a Barrier spell. Ethereal radiation can also be remedied by Esuna. The intensity of their glow may inflict blindness (darkness) which can also be remedied as it would normally.Certain status ailments (such as freeze and petrify) are only susceptible depending on the energy levels of the Ethereal (the logic there being that they no longer have the energy to successfully melt through ice or stone.) Ethereal energy levels can be classified as HP, in this instance.
